Meta Expands Quest Support to Third-Party Hardware Makers

In a blog post, Meta detailed that the new ecosystem is designed for developers' convenience to build apps and reach more audiences. Moreover, opening Quest's OS allows consumers to get more choices in the market.

"This long-term investment that began on the mobile-first foundations of the Android Open Source Project has produced a full mixed reality operating system used by millions of people," the company wrote.

Developers and creators can utilize custom frameworks and tools designed for mixed-reality experiences to expand their business through content discovery and monetization platforms.

Other global tech companies are already working with Meta using the Horizon OS. This includes ASUS's Republic of Gamers, Lenovo, and Xbox. The companies benefit from Meta's collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies for the Snapdragon processors.

Meta Revamps Quest Ecosystem for Horizon OS

Meta also revealed that the Quest Store will be renamed into Horizon Store. Likewise, it still offers the same library of immersive apps and experiences. The mobile app used by Quest owners is also revamping into the Horizon app.

In addition, the company shared that it is in the process of removing the separation between the Horizon Store and App Lab. The titles from the Lab will soon have a dedicated section on the Store for all devices.

"There are multiple ways to access great content on Meta Horizon OS, including popular gaming services like Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, or through Steam Link or our Air Link system for wirelessly streaming PC software to headsets," Meta added.

Developers can now apply for access to Horizon OS.
