'Resident Evil 7: Biohazard' News: VR Compatibility, 3D Scanning Technology Caused Delay, Says CAPCOM
Fans of CAPCOM's Resident Evil series can't wait to get their hands on the seventh installment of the game. Capcom, however, issued their apology for the delay saying that the enhancements they made to its VR capabilities and the adoption of 3D scanning are the causes of its launch date delay.
Jun Takeuchi, CAPCOM's Managing Corporate Officer & Head of Consumer Games Development Division 1, revealed this in the company's latest annual report. He said that development of Resident Evil 7 has been quite difficult because they have made it compatible with PlayStation VR.
"With VR, we couldn't bring the game to market unless it had photorealistic graphics on par with live-action films. To create that level of quality, conventional production methods would take too long and cost too much," Takeuchi added.
He also added that there is a need for the company to rethink how they create their games. Thus, they have begun development of their RE ENGINE, so they can make the asset-based development by adopting 3D scanning in order to record subjects in 360 degrees using just one shot.
Tomofumi Ishida, Lead Programmer of the Technology Section of CAPCOM, also added that the development of the RE ENGINE coincides with Resident Evil 7 that they have to juggle two projects at the same time.
Meanwhile, Makoto Fukui, Technical Artist of Section 1, said that they want the game to be as realistic as possible that it will 'cling to body and memory.' In order to achieve such realism, Fukui said that they used the 'world's largest scale 3D scanning systems.'
With this announcement from CAPCOM's big boss, this means that Resident Evil's system requirements for PC will be rather high. It's minimum requirements will be Windows 7 -10 64-bit with DirectX Version 11, 8GB RAM of memory, and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 or higher. Processor requirement is either Intel Core i5-4460, 2.70GHz or AMD FX-6300 or better.
Resident Evil: Biohazard is set to be released on January 24, 2017.
