Apple has incorporated a lot of changes to its new mobile operating system and the iOS 7 beta 2 edition brings into the equation features that can detect smiles and blinks when taking photos. These hints of better photo apps in the future that will tell users if another snap is needed.

The blink detection and smile detection features can enhance the camera app of iOS devices and likewise pave the way for the introduction of new features in other image-capturing apps.

When Apple released the iOS 5, it had codes within its application programming interface that help improved the white balance and the camera app's autofocus. The iOS 6 brought panorama mode that stitches together a series of shots into one large picture.

According to a report on 9to5mac, the API's CIDetectorEyeBlink and the CIDetectorSmile may lead to apps that will help users discard shots with closed eyes and be inclined on snapping photos when more people are smiling in the frame. However, this features are already seen on Android smartphones.

The efforts of Apple to bolster the capabilities of its camera and camera apps can be considered successful with the iPhone 5, iPhone 4 and 4S as the most popular cameras on Flickr according an article on MacRumors.

Apple also throws in other options so apps developers can make most of the autofocus feature and have a smoother image output.

Barcode recognition is integrated as well. The iOS 7 beta 2 API brings real-time detection of barcodes of any format such as UPC and European styles.

The new Apple operating system will also give developers access to 60 frames-per-second video recording capability. This feature will allow apps to have slow motion visual effects that will be of decent capability. The OS will also have codes to keep the pitch of the video at a normal rate even when playing a few times at a higher speed. The next-generation iOS devices will be able to capture videos with higher frame rates.

With the iPhone 5S speculated to have a dual-LED flash and a possible 12-megapixel camera, the new features being introduced by Apple to the iOS 7 will surely tickle the imagination of mobile apps developers.
