Meet Huawei Ascend W2: The newest WP8 smartphone

Huawei's much-rumored Windows Phone 8-powered Ascend W2 smartphone has been showcased at the ongoing Mobile Asia Expo in China, and by the look of things, the affordable handset will make its debut on June 26.

According to a WMPoweruser report, "The full specs of the somewhat anticipated Huawei Ascend W2 has been confirmed, courtesy of a specs sheet at Huawei's stand at GSMA 2013 Mobile Asia Expo where the China Mobile version of the handset was being shown off."

Per the spec sheet, the Ascend W2 will feature a 4.3-inch WVGA display. Under the hood, the Huawei smartphone packs in a 1.4GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor MSM8x30 (Adeno 305 GPU). The WP8 smartphone also has 512MB of RAM and 8GB of on-board storage along with the option to expand the memory further via a microSD card.

What's more, the smartphone also has a glove mode for the touchscreen, which will enable users to operate the device easily even when wearing gloves.

The 9.9mm thick smartphone will release in three color options: black, red and yellow, and will run on the WP8 OS.

While the modest specs are not much to write home about, but with WP8 smartphones becoming increasing popular, Ascend W2 may well be go on to be a winner.

Huawei is yet to announce the price, but previous reports have hinted that the Ascend W2 smartphone will sport a price tag of less than $300. The company also hasn't disclosed when the Ascend W2 will hit international markets.
