Sony Xperia i1 'Honami' gets compared to Xperia Z, shows new camera UI in leaked images

New images of Sony's upcoming "Honami" Xperia i1 have leaked, detailing its new camera user interface (UI) and offering a comparison to the Xperia  Z.

Sony is getting ready to officially unveil the Xperia i1, which is going by the codename "Honami". The smartphone will be Sony's answer to the Nokia Lumia 1020 and the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom. Like those handsets, Sony is shipping the smartphone with a high-end camera. The smartphone will reportedly feature a 20-megapixel shooter that will also have the ability to record video at 4k. Sony is also expected to release a new camera API that will allow users to add new functions to the smartphone's camera app.

New images have leaked that give us a better idea of the size of the Honami, showing the handset next to the Xperia Z. The Honami appears to have an almost identical design to the Xperia Z, but it has a slightly taller and thinner frame. Both handsets have a 5-inch HD display.

The images also show the new camera user interface and features. The picture mode selection screen shows different settings a user can choose, such as Superior Auto, Manual, Timeshift burst, Social Eye, AR Effects and more. The leaked photos offer a preview of the AR Effects, which is an augmented reality effect that will superimpose different images on your photos. There is also an example of a prehistoric landscape with dinosaurs appear on the screen of the image you're taking.

The Honami will reportedly feature a 5-inch 1920 x 1080 (Full HD) TRILUMINOS display with X-Reality for mobile, run Android 4.2.2 and pack a 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with an Adreno 330 graphics processing unit (GPU). The Xperia i1 will also include 16GB of internal storage, 2GB of RAM, 1/2.3-inch 20.7-megapixel rear camera with ExmorRS for mobile, Sony G-Lens and BIONZ for mobile, a 2-megapixel Exmor R front facing camera, 4G LTE radio, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, an expansion slot for additional memory and a non-removable 3,000 mAh battery. The smartphone is expected to make its official debut at IFA in September and come in black, white, or purple color options.
