Refreshed HTC One may arrive with an octa-core processor and 3GB of RAM

A screenshot of the rumored refreshed HTC One has leaked and indicates that the handset is running on an octa-core processor and 3GB of RAM.

HTC released its flagship smartphone in April this year nearly, at the same time as Samsung released the much-awaited Galaxy S4. The HTC One is still one of the most popular Android smartphones around and the handset is also the nearest Android competitor of the Galaxy S4. However, the sales of the HTC One do not seem to be on par with what the company had expected.

A previous report suggested that HTC may launch a refreshed version of the flagship smartphone with a Snapdragon 800 processor, as opposed to the Snapdragon 600 processor found on the current HTC One. However, a recently-leaked screenshot of the HTC One running on an octa-core processor with 3GB RAM has emerged online, courtesy of Greek website Tech Community.

"As nice as this may be to believe, keep in mind that it could be a fake. After all, such screens are incredibly easy to forge. Perhaps adding to this possibility is the fact that no specific chipset is listed - 'octa-core' is a pretty vague entry for that CPU field," reports UnwiredView.

The UnwiredView report also indicates that chipset maker Qualcomm won't make an octa-core processor and MediaTek is the only chipset maker to have announced that it's working on an octa-core processor for smartphones. However, the MediaTek octa-core chip will be based on ARM's Cortex-A7 design, which won't provide high performance.

If the leaked screenshot of the HTC One is the real deal, the upcoming handset will be the first HTC smartphone to include 3GB of RAM.

The competition in the smartphone market is getting stronger and even with new improvements on-board, the refreshed HTC One may still face stiff competition from rivals such as the Samsung Galaxy S4, LG G2, Sony Xperia Z1 (Honami), iPhone 5S and more.

The company has not yet confirmed plans to launch a refreshed version of the HTC One. However, some rumors suggest that the new HTC One may launch along with the HTC One Max, expected to debut in the latter part of this year.
