Huawei Ascend P7 powerhouse now official, launching this month for €449 unlocked (VIDEO)

Huawei has just unveiled its latest top-notch device, the Ascend P7, boasting high-end specs and notable improvements over its predecessor, the Ascend P6.

When Huawei launched its Ascend P6 last year, the hadnset was touted as the world's slimmest smartphone, and it definitely was impressive. The company has now launched its new Ascent P7 at an event in Paris on Wednesday, May 7, introducing a smartphone that is even more impressive than the Ascend P6.

The new Ascend P7 is not the world's thinnest smartphone, but it sure holds its own. It's still one of the slimmest 4G-enabled smartphones on the market, and sports great improvements in virtually all departments. While the design remains largely the same as its predecessor, the specs are considerably better.

"Huawei's relentless commitment to developing premium quality smartphones over the past three years has paid off. We are now ranked number three globally in terms of smartphone shipments, and our brand recognition is growing steadily in key regions such as China and Western Europe," said Huawei Consumer Business Group (BG) CEO Richard Yu. "Today, the launch of Huawei Ascend P7 once again challenges existing industry standards by redefining smartphone design, camera experience, and connectivity, to provide people with an unprecedented mobile experience."

The Huawei Ascend P7 sports a 5-inch full HD 1080p display, a quad-core HiSilicon Kirin 910T processor clocked at 1.8GHz, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage capacity, microSD card support for additional memory, a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, and an 8-megapixel rear shooter. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, and NFC. The smartphone has a 2,500 mAh battery, measures 139.8 x 68.8 x .5 mm, and weighs in at 124 grams. On the software side, the Ascend P7 runs the latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box, with Huawei's own Emotion UI 2.3 on top.

Compared to its predecessor, the new Ascend P7 has a bigger display with a higher resolution, upgraded cameras (the Ascend P6 has an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front shooter), a higher clock speed (300 mAh higher), and a bigger battery (by 500 mAh). The new flagship also boasts 4G LTE support, something its predecessor lacked.

The new Huawei Ascend P7 will make its commercial debut this month, launching in three color options: black, white, and pink. The smartphone will cost €449 unlocked, which some consider a bit steep. The Ascend P7 will initially hit China, the UK, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Poland, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Serbia, Greece, Norway, Hungary, Denmark, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Austria, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates. Huawei said it will launch its Ascend P7 in more countries afterwards, but offered no further details at this point. Considering the company's troubled relationship with the U.S. government, however, the Ascend P7 will likely not make it to the U.S., at least not officially.
