Moto X+1 leaks with black leather back, metal frame ahead of official debut

The upcoming Moto X+1 smartphone from Motorola has leaked yet again, this time surfacing with a black leather back plate and a metal frame.

The Moto X+1 is expected to debut next week as Motorola's latest flagship smartphone and should sport notable improvements over its predecessor. Last year's Moto X stirred quite some waves not because it had top-notch specs and features on board, but because it offered unprecedented and unparalleled customization options. Motorola allowed users to choose from more than 2,000 possible combinations and design their desired Moto X, which proved to be a popular strategy.

The Moto X+1, as the name suggests, will come as the successor to last year's Moto X and is expected to offer similar customization options. The handset has leaked on several occasions so far ahead of its official debut, and the rumor mill is still churning in anticipation.

The latest leaked image purportedly showing the Moto X+1 now comes from TK Tech News, revealing a model with a black leather back plate and a stylish metal frame.

While the Moto X+1 is not official just yet, various leaks and rumors so far have painted a pretty clear picture of what to expect. In terms of hardware specifications, the new flagship smartphone from Motorola should sport a 5.2-inch display with a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor clocked at 2.2GHz, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB/32GB of internal storage capacity. It remains unclear at this point whether the smartphone will also come with microSD support for expandable storage.

Other rumored specs for the upcoming Moto X+1 include a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel front shooter, and Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box. As previously mentioned, the new flagship is expected to offer wide customization options just like its predecessor.

The Moto X+1 should debut at Motorola's event next week alongside the Moto G2 (or Moto G+1) and the much-touted Moto 360 smartwatch on Sept. 4. Motorola's Moto Maker website is currently down for a "tune-up," fueling speculation that the company's latest lineup of devices is now being added to the website. With nothing officially confirmed at this point, however, make sure to take everything with a grain of salt until Motorola makes its announcement.
