Samsung Galaxy Note 4 early launch botched by manufacturing defect

Some manufacturing issues have botched the early launch of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 phablet in Korea and China.

Samsung originally announced that it will release its new Galaxy Note 4 in October, but later decided to accelerate the release in South Korea and China. This was widely regarded to steal Apple's thunder, as the latest iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are yet to hit commercial availability in these countries.

While Samsung and Apple have long been archrivals, up until now the iMaker has not competed in the phablet category of the smartphone market. The new iPhone 6 Plus, however, is expected to go head to head with Samsung's new Galaxy Note phablet. As it turns out, accelerating the launch of the Galaxy Note 4 may not have been such a good idea after all.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 made its debut in Korea on Friday, Sept. 26, but it hasn't been the launch the company was likely hoping for. According to a new report from the Korean media (via GforGames), a number of users who have bought the new Galaxy Note 4 have reported that there is a gap between the device's display and its casing.

More specifically, the gap is reportedly big enough to fit two sheets of A4 paper or a business card, as seen in the image above. Such a gap could pose some serious issues, as dust and lint can settle there and affect the phone's functionality, not to mention that any drop of liquid reaching that gap could damage the device.

According to the Korean media, Samsung is aware of this manufacturing issue affecting its Galaxy Note 4, which means that it should offer a solution soon. The company should also take the necessary steps to ensure the same issue doesn't ruin the international release of the Note 4, which is set for October.

The company issued no statement in this regards so far, but we'll make sure to keep you up to date on the whole matter as soon as more information becomes available. As a reminder, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will hit the U.S. in mid-October, and will reach 140 countries by the end of next month.
