Samsung Galaxy A5 drops by FCC with LTE certification for US Cellular

Samsung's upcoming A series of metallic smartphones have leaked on several occasions so far and now more clues have surfaced regarding the purported Galaxy A5.

The recently-launched Samsung Galaxy Alpha smartphone with a metallic frame drew lots of interest due to its design, as it finally marked a slight departure from Samsung's love of plastic. The Galaxy Alpha is widely believed to be just the first in a lineup of upcoming Galaxy devices that will debut as part of the A series.

The purported Galaxy A series is rumored to be a mid-range lineup consisting of three devices: the Galaxy A3, A5, and A7. The three handsets are expected to share the same design language as the Galaxy Alpha, although it remains unclear whether they will have full-metal bodies, aluminum frames, or just plastic casings.

The device that leaked most out of this A series trio is the Samsung Galaxy A5, and newly-uncovered clues now indicate that this device will soon make its debut in the U.S.

The folks over at GforGames have uncovered an FCC document that indicates an imminent U.S. launch for the purported Samsung Galaxy A5. The document doesn't reveal any hardware specifications for the device, but the publication found out that the Galaxy A5 will come with support for LTE FDD Band 5, which is used by only one carrier: US Cellular.

While the FCC gave no hints regarding the Galaxy A5's hardware, previous reports have tried to paint a picture of what to expect. Based on leaks and speculation so far, the Samsung Galaxy A5 is expected to sport a 5-inch Super AMOLED display with an HD resolution and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor under the hood. Other rumored specs include a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front shooter, 16GB of internal storage capacity, and a 2,330 mAh battery to keep things up and running. On the software side, the handset is expected to come with Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box.

Nothing is officially confirmed at this point, but the FCC is usually among the last stops before a device makes its official debut. We'll keep an eye out for any new information regarding the Samsung Galaxy A5 and the A series, so stay tuned.
