Instagram adds first new filters in two years – Check it out

For the first time in two years, popular app Instagram has finally added some new filters for users to apply to still images.

The last filters Instagram added before this were Willow and Mayfair, but many users felt that some new options were long overdue. Instagram now boasts five new filters for still images, named oddly as usual: meet Slumber, Crema, Ludwig, Aden, and Perpetua.

"In December 2012, we added Mayfair and Willow to the Instagram filter family - and a lot has happened in the last two years. Photography trends have evolved, and the capabilities of the camera on your phone have vastly improved. We've seen tremendous creativity within the community, not only in the moments they share, but in the time spent carefully composing and editing photos and videos to bring out emotions and make them beautiful," Instagram explains in a company blog post.

"Inspired by the photography, art, fashion and design of the global Instagram community, we're releasing five new filters that we believe are our best yet. You'lll see the filters at the front of your filter tray: Slumber, Crema, Ludwig, Aden and Perpetua. They soften and subtly shift colors to achieve the look and feel you want for each new photo."

In addition to the new filters, Instagram is also introducing a new way to "Manage" your filters. More specifically, users can now rearrange filters so the ones they use most frequently are at the front of the line for easier use, while those they usually ignore will be pushed back.

Moreover, the Instagram app will now also use a preview of the actual photo within the filter icons, instead of displaying the hot air balloon preview as it did until now.

With an increasing number of users joining the party, Instagram finally seems ready to take things to the next level and start spicing up its offerings. The app already hit 300 million users, and improving its services will likely attract even more.

The Instagram Help Center has more details on how to use the new filters, while the new apps are available for download for free. You can find Instagram for iOS version 6.4.0 on Apple's App Store here, and Instagram for Android 6.12.0 on Google Play at this link.
