Lenovo LaVie Z laptops now on sale in the U.S. – Specs, prices

Lenovo is now officially offering its impressively-thin LaVie Z laptops in the U.S., with two models now available for purchase directly from its store.

Officially unveiled back at CES 2015, Lenovo's pair of sleek LaVie Z laptops are expected to go head to head with Apple's thin MacBook. The LaVie Z is the lightest model, while the LaVie Z 360 comes as a hybrid device with a 360-degree rotating hinge that allows users to turn the laptop into a tablet.

Both LaVie Z models feature 13.3-inch multitouch displays, fifth-generation (Broadwell) Intel Core i7-5500U 2.4GHz processors, thin and light designs, and a long battery life.

As previously mentioned, the Lenovo LaVie Z is the lighter of the two, tipping the scales at just 1.87 pounds, and measuring just 0.7 inches in thickness. Nevertheless, the device still packs two USB 3.0 ports, HDMI output, an SD card reader, and a headphone/mic jack combo.

The hybrid Lenovo LaVie Z 360 convertible, meanwhile, is slightly heavier at 2.04 pounds, but retains the 0.7-inch thickness and the same ports as its non-convertible counterpart.

Other specifications the two Lenovo LaVie Z laptops share include 8GB of RAM, a 256GB SSD, a 2560 x 1440 resolution as standard, Intel HD graphics 5500, and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.

On the software side, Lenovo's sleek new LaVie Z laptops run Microsoft's Windows 8.1 for now, but they will both receive a free upgrade to the latest Windows 10 once Microsoft releases the new OS.

When it comes to pricing, the two Lenovo LaVie Z laptops are not the cheapest laptops out there, as one could imagine. The LaVie Z is now on sale for $1,499, while the LaVie Z 360 convertible goes up to $1,699.

It's worth pointing out that upon unveiling the LaVie Z at CES 2015 back in January, Lenovo said it will also offer Intel Core i5 versions with 4GB of RAM at more affordable prices. The company should sell these versions for $1,299 and $1,499, respectively, but it remains unclear at this point just when these models will become available for purchase. For now, only the more expensive Core i7 variants of the laptops are on sale.
