Your microwaves will start talking with one another

In order to make cooking a bit easier for you, the latest ranges and microwaves from GE will talk to one another. This is first time when such technology has become available on affordable appliances.

The Profile branded microwaves and their companions will use Bluetooth connectivity in order to sync some aspects of the cooking process, such as ventilation and turning on task lighting. The clocks on each microwave appliance will also be synced automatically. When users will set the time on one microwave this will also automatically set the other as well.

This technology from GE is called Chef Connect. Its purpose is to make setup faster and easier when a combination vent hood and microwave is installed directly over the range. When the cook will turn a burner on, the built-in task lighting on the microwave will automatically turn on and shine down on your food. This will save you a few seconds when you use the stove by shortcutting the step of turning on your own. It will also help avoiding greasy handprints on your microwave.

Also, by automatically syncing the clocks on each device, time differences between the range and the microwave will become a thing of the past. Another option provided by Chef Connect technology from GE is setting the vent fan to turn on automatically the moment the range is working. This setting eliminates one step that might leave fingerprints behind otherwise and provides further connectivity. It also saves you a few seconds of your time spent with cooking.

While Chef Connect is more a "nice to have" feature than a "must have" one and maybe not many customers are ready to pay a premium price for just some minor conveniences, but the good news is that the GE Chef Connect Bluetooth functionality will not snatch any from your budget, no extra charges for this device.

The upcoming on-the-range microwave from GE will come with 2.1-cubic-foot capacity. Four choices of design will be available, all at the same price ($499): white, black, slate, and stainless steel. The first Bluetooth connected GE appliances will come on the market in September. The freestanding GE Profile Range will come in both electric and gas configurations, and will come on the market in August.

GE aims to provide a better cooking experience in the kitchen with their Bluetooth connected new line of ranges and over-the-range microwaves. The company already incorporated previously Wi-Fi capability into its Profile line of wall ovens and freestanding ranges. With the Chef Connect feature, GE is continuing its exploration into wireless technology and strengthens its position on the connected kitchen appliance marketplace.
