Pics of New Blackberry Smartphone Leaked

Photos of BlackBerry's supposed latest model, codenamed Venice, have been making rounds online. The look of the new device is prompting speculations that the company will be powering the new smartphone with android.

The render, leaked a few days before, shows a mobile phone with curved sides. The screen is laid out with icons of apps, with no physical keypad. Some netizens compare its look to that of the Samsung Galaxy Edge series.

Comments about the leaked photos have mostly been positive. Online reports have called it "sleek" and said BlackBerry is "looking good".

The phone is rumored to be 5.4 inches, with a front and back camera, and a Snapdragon chipset.

If the leaked photos were legitimate, then BlackBerry may really be attempting to re-establish its place in the smartphone market. Its sales reportedly plummeted to less than one percent of the total mobile market.

Despite its release of a BlackBerry 10 model, the brand was not able to compete with Apple and Samsung. In 2013, its latest device met positive reviews from users and websites.

The use of android, if proven true, is a huge step for BlackBerry. The company has been using its self-developed operating system for its phones.

With numbers going down, the brand can use some help from the Google-developed OS. Android is the operating system of many smartphone brands, including Samsung.

Google has not commented on the BlackBerry-Android rumors. BlackBerry, however, said in an email to Daily Mail, 'We don't comment on rumours and speculation, but we remain committed to the BlackBerry 10 operating system, which provides security and productivity benefits that are unmatched.'

Evan Blass, who uploaded the BlackBerry photos and is known for releasing information on upcoming phones, has hinted on an official release in AT&T. Rumours point to a November 2015 launch for the device.

BlackBerry has not confirmed the speculations.
