Gear VR's Next Compatible Phone's First Image Reportedly Leaked

VR Focus has reports about the first leaked image of Gear's VR compatible phone. The South Korean electronics corporation will host Samsung Unpacked, its next press even in just 2 weeks' time. Usually, Samsung holds its press events in September, but this year the press event will be taking place earlier than usually, on the 13th August. The show is expected to come with plenty of announcements from the South Korean company, including the reveal of the Galaxy Note 5.

This new generation smartphone from Samsung is expected to support a consumer version of the head-mounted virtual reality (VR) display gadget from Gear VR. Online reports present already the first leaked image of the handset, thanks to the Internet leaker Evan Blass.

Blass has recent posted on Twitter what appear to be official press renders of two new handsets from Samsung, the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, another device that's been rumored for a long time. Galaxy S6 Edge Plus appears to be an enlarged version of the Galaxy S6 Edge smartphone revealed by Samsung at an earlier press conference this year.

As of the moment, it is still not certain if Galaxy S6 Edge Plus smartphone could also support the consumer Gear VR. However, since the original Galaxy S6 Edge did support the S6 version of the HMD, it is expected that the enhanced new device to come with this capability as well.

The consumer Gear VR is also expected to be launched on the market this year. Samsung Unpacked press event could serve as the venue for Gear VR to reveal their new kit as well. The improvements of this new device over the original versions are not yet known.

At the moment when they were launched, the first versions of Gear VR headsets were dubbed as Innovator Editions. It was previously promised by the co-creator of the gadget, Oculus VR, that this new generation will be going "full consumer". This would be a clear push towards the mainstream market for the VR devices, which were targeted before only to developers and VR enthusiasts.
