Asus ZenWatch 2 Goes Live In The Google Store

The new generation of smartwatch wars is being battled out by the new Moto 360, the Samsung Gear S2, and the second edition of LG's Watch Urbane. Asus is not letting out, however, as the Taiwanese manufacturer joins in the fun with their ZenWatch 2. Now live and available for purchase from the Google Store, the Asus ZenWatch 2 can now be nabbed by anyone interested in the smartwatch.

The Asus ZenWatch 2 is available for a paltry $149 price tag in the Google Store - it easily beats the competition from Motorola, Samsung, and LG, which have smartwatches starting with a $299 price tag. With that said, there are a couple of tradeoffs on Asus part to reach the specific price point.

Asus did not make a lot of changes for the ZenWatch 2 in terms of appearance. It still carries the same rounded curves and its angular display. It also features a larger battery plus a quick charging feature - it can last about 66 hours between charges, giving it about almost three days of usage until it runs out of juice. It come with built-in Wi-Fi connectivity, half a GB of memory, and 4 GB of internal storage.

For durability, Asus equipped the ZenWatch 2 with an IP67 rating, a huge bump over its predecessor's IP55 rating. While the entries in the competition boast the same feature, the ZenWatch 2 differentiates itself with its two options - a 45 mm variant with a Light Aqua rubber strap and a 49 mm option with a classy Navy Blue leather strap.

Asus offers the ZenWatch 2 at the Google Store with a starting price of $149. It comes off as a more affordable Android Wear offerings currently in the market, and it carries almost all of the same features that people look for when buying a smartwatch. For people looking to get into the Android Wear experience, the ZenWatch 2 is definitely a promising option.
