NBA Trade Rumors: LA Lakers Keeping Large Salary Cap For Mysterious Player

The LA Lakers are keeping a large salary cap space reportedly in anticipation for a mysterious players coming to the team.

The trade negotiations are nearly at end. However, some teams like the Lakers appear to be making some last minute trade talks. The team got a few good players from the trade and draft picks. But the LA Lakers are hoping to get one last good deal or two.

The Lakers acquired Jose Calderon from the Chicago Bulls in early July. The team is reportedly holding a large reserve of the salary cap in anticipation of another player with the same caliber as Calderon, according to Basketball Insiders.

The LA team has suspended for the moment the contract of contract signing of three players namely, Tarik Black and Marcelo Huertas as well as Brandon Ingram. This would helped Lakers management raised the money for a possible upcoming big star player. Ditching the three would help the team increase their war chest by at least $13 million.

There are rumors that Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak is saving all that money in case Oklahoma Thunder Russell Westbrook or other big name players becomes available next year, according to SB Nation. But there are speculations that a trade is bound to happen soon.

However, Kupchak and team management has revealed very little information or even a hint on the identity of the mysterious player. There are also speculations that any player coming to the Lakers today will unlikely affect the team's chances now.

Meanwhile, the LA Lakers has extended a four year contract worth $50 million point guard Jordan Taylor Clarkson. The team also gave two of its least performing players Luol Deng and Timofey four years contract worth at least $72 million and $64 million respectively. Many have criticized Kupchak for giving such an over generous contract.
