Square Enix Develops First RPG For The Apple Watch

Apple is partnering up with popular game developer Square Enix to bring an RPG game to the Apple Watch. Not much is known at this point, but a lot of hype is starting to follow the same.

According to Apple Insider, the game will be played via the Apple Watch's motion sensing capabilities. This will keep track of the users steps and will correspondingly move the characters of the game. Working on the game are producer Takehiro Ando, who lead the creation of "Chaos Ring" for the iOS and art diretor Yusuke Naora, who worked on "Chaos Ring" and "Final Fantasy."

The game on the Apple Watch is called "Cosmo Rings" and will be available first in Japan later on this summer.

"Cosmo Rings" already has a website, but, as Ars Technica points out, not much is available on it. It only confirms that it will be a role playing game, which can be purchased via the App Store and the Watch App Store. As no other smartwatches were mentioned on the teaser site, it is safely assumed that the game will be exclusive to the Apple Watch.

There is, however, the question of feasibility. This gaming platform is technically still in its infancy stages and there will be issues to face. For instance, the Apple Watch has a small screen, which may not be conducive to game play. And while actions can definitely get a player far, it might prove to be difficult.

Battery life is another thing to consider. Apple has not made a name for itself because of its reliable battery. In fact, the Apple Watch can only last one day on a single charge and adding a game onto its current list of capabilities may drain it completely.

Of course, there are speculative answers as well. Square Enix, being one of the more popular game developers, certainly know what it is getting into. Surely, the company has taken all things into consideration and will provide users with a new and great gaming experience. After all, it is definitely possible that the game will work both on the Apple Watch and iPhone, thus making things a little easier.
