2016 Olympic News Updates: Official Channel Prepares Launch Amid Summer Delegates Housing Complaint

The 2016 Olympic official broadcasting channel is expected to be launched on August 21. Various athletic delegations, however, are dismayed by the poor conditions of their housing quarters in Rio De Janeiro.

The International Olympic Committee or IOC has announced that olympicchannel.com will be available to all media outlets around the world. It will also be released on most major social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Pictures and videos taken in the events could be uploaded to Instagram and YouTube respectively, according to the official Olympic site.

The official Olympic channel will initially be presented in English. Other languages will probably be offered in the coming days. Fortunately, there will be subtitles available for at least nine languages.

Meanwhile, various athletic groups from around the world have been complaining about the lack or non-existence various necessities such as electricity and water in their housing quarters, according to the Washington Post.

It was the Australian delegation who first complained about the defects in their living quarters last July 24. The Rio authorities eventually pacified them by repairing the electrical and plumbing problems of the building.

Unfortunately, delegations from other countries are also reporting the same problems. As a result, the local government has mobilized an army of 600 working crew to remedy the problem. An unidentified engineer blamed the original builders for haphazard work on the project.

Pure Island is the company that constructed the Olympic building complexes in Rio de Janeiro. Its spokesperson claimed that the housing quarters are finished according to specifications and are "structurally sound". Pure Island has sent its own crew to help with the repair.

Olympic officials said that water and electrical connections were rushed to meet the deadline. They admitted that utilities in the housing complex have not been thoroughly tested. The officials, however, are not pointing blames. Some countries have also sent their athletes to other housing facilities while their Olympic quarters are still under repair.
