The 2016 Apple iMac model is rumored to feature Virtual Reality (VR) or Augmented Reality (AR) technology. There have been speculations that the AMD Polaris graphic chips will at least be included in the higher end models of the upcoming 2016 iMac computers.

The inclusion of either AR or VR technology in the upcoming 2016 iMac is simply speculation at this moment. Apple has not yet officially confirmed the specs nor has it announced the official release date of the iMac.

It is interesting to note that Apple CEO Tim Cook merely said in public that both "AR and VR is interesting." He did not mention if Apple is going to feature either technology in any of their upcoming or current products, according to PC Mag.

That does not mean however, that Apple has no plans of integrating such technology in the future. It's just that the Cupertino-based company is not usually the first one to embrace new technologies. But it sure knows how to improve and take advantage of it. Apple's introduction of the mouse and GPU in its personal computer products are the best examples.

Meanwhile, quite a number of people are speculating that the 2016 iMac laptop will have VR capabilities, according to MacWorld. Their assumption is based on another rumor that AMD will supply Apple's product with two graphic chips namely, Polaris 10 and 11.

AMD's Polaris graphic cards are touted as the only way to make VR technology affordable enough for many computer users. The current iMac graphic cards could not run VR tech since they are not powerful enough to support its complexity.

Palmer Luckey, the founder of Oculus said that this is the main reason why his company is focusing its products in Windows PC's. However, if Apple's 2016 iMac can support VR or AR technology, it will only be a matter of time before iMac users can start using the Oculus Rift headset.
