'No Mario's Sky' Changes Game Title After Nintendo Files Copyright Lawsuit

Nintendo sent out again another notice to take down 'No Mario's Sky', a fan-made video game that is a mash up between Super Mario and No Man's Sky, Polygon reports. But instead of setting the said game to run towards the sunset, ASMB Games - developer, has found a work around against Nintendo lawyers. The solution was simple, turn 'No Mario's Sky' into 'DMCA Sky'!

This link covers the legal threat that Nintendo has issued to 'No Mario's Sky' developer, ASMB Games, a copy can be accessible to the public. As per Nintendo's attorney, 'No Mario's Sky' has infringed on Nintendo's copyright for its Super Mario game franchise by utilizing recognizable characters and sprites. But instead of pulling out the game, the team is treating Nintendo's copyright claim as some sort of a badge, fine-tuning it marginally to cater Nintendo's itinerary.

Instead of the Italian plumber, DMCA's Sky will now star as a sort of Spaceman who is on a mission to search for a certain Princess Mango while battling off Moombas, not Goombas, in what seems to be an infinite universe. Despite all these renaming, the game still plays the same, as reported by its itch.io page. That said, the only difference would be the character and world names, and the title.

No Mario's Sky endured for around a week before Nintendo hailed and knocked on ASMB's door. This is not the first time that Nintendo has been on pursuit of fan-made games. The company has been pulling down games by the hundred as of the past week. GameJolt pulled back more than 500 fan-made games based on Super Mario, Pokémon, and Legend of Zelda in the name of copyright claims.

ASMB Games' now-renamed project may be clever enough to survive Nintendo's legal team but for how long, nobody knows. So you might as well take this chance to download the game on PC, Mac, and Linux, before something happens.

If this is a copyright issue, why didn't Sony and Hello Games jump in? Feel free to express your opinions via the comment section below.
