Overwatch Update: Why Is The High Bandwidth Update For PC Players Only?

Sorry, console players, as a new update for Overwatch becomes available today for the PC only. Blizzard has taken action towards the connectivity problems with Overwatch and decides to treat PC players with the high bandwidth update. This update promises higher quality in terms of PC online play.

The said high bandwidth update was announced by Overwatch's Tim Ford and Philip Orwig, who are lead and senior engineers respectively, GameRant.com reports. See them in the video below.

How does it work?

Basically, those with lower internet connectivity will be grouped into a lower tier, allowing them to have smoother and reliable connections via interpolation delay. This would mean that all heroes will be rendered more accurately via their respective locations instead of being rendered at the other clients. To quote:

"The net result is you will be shot around corners less, you'll be able to predict escape moves better and the server will hear about it sooner," claims Ford.

On the other hand, those who have strong connections, the interpolation delay will be shortened by over half the time obviously because of their current speed that can adapt right away. This is mainly thanks to the netcode that was implemented into the game during the latest update.

How about console players?

Be patient, young grasshopper, as the dev team are currently trying to figure out how they would implement the high bandwidth update for the PS4 and Xbox One, as reported. It would take some time before the developers could align the resolution for PC towards the consoles.

At least for now, PC gamers can enjoy improved connectivity as the game gets more competitive. It is hoped that console players will be next, provided that Blizzard can figure out how to implement the high bandwidth update to console networks.
