'Detective Conan' To Air 2-Hour Special Remake Of First Episode; Reveals More Details About Shinichi's Transformation

To celebrate its 20th anniversary, anime series "Detective Conan" will recreate its first episode on a new two-hour special "Detective Conan Episode 1: The Great Detective Who Shrank," as announced on the 42nd issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen last Sunday. The special episode will not only make us remember the beginning of it all, but it will also feature new details on the day that Shinichi was turned back into a child.

According to Anime News Network the special "Detective Conan" episode will add new materials that nobody has ever seen. Not even on the original manga illustrated by Gosho Aoyama or the anime's current more than 800 episodes.

The story begins with teenage detective prodigy Shinichi on a date with his girlfriend, Ran, at the Tropical Land amusement park and follows with Shinichi's unlucky encounter with the Black Organization which made him ingest a poison. But instead of killing him, it turned him to a child.

The manga was originally published under Viz Media with the title "Case Closed" and Shinichi named as Jimmy Kudo

Jimmy aka Shinichi disguised into a new identity of Conan Edogawa, and tries to track those who forcefully made him drink the poison by helping the police solve cases with his skills. He lives with his father Richard Edogawa who is a private detective and tags along with his investigations. Conan solves the cases and uses tranquilizer to put Richard to sleep as he impersonates him to explain the solution for the case. He also goes on an elementary school and creates his own Junior Detective club. There he met the person who made the poison who is now in child form like himself.

"Detective Conan" anime has been airing since 1996 under Funimation Entertainment. It also airs in North America with the title "Case Closed." In 2007, Aoyama stated that the ending plot for the series has already been planned but fans would have to wait because he doesn't intend to end the series just yet.
