'Pokémon Generations' Animated Shorts Rides the 'Pokemon Go' Global Wave

Nintendo is riding a global wave of goodwill on its well-loved Pokemon characters by launching "Pokémon Generations" - a series of animated shorts which will feature back stories and origins of some of Pokemon's cutest characters.

Nintendo is hoping to bolster the unprecedented global wave of popularity that "Pokemon Go" is generating by arousing nostalgic feelings from fans through the animated shorts.

According to Polygon, Pokémon the animated shorts is Nintendo's way of extending its 20th anniversary year which took place in February. "Pokemon Generations" is hoping to take fans new to the series back in the past, explaining events which help them transition to the next generation of Pokemon characters.

As per Collider, "Pokémon Generations" will retell the beginnings of "Pokémon" starting way back during its start in the days of Gameboy. The animated shorts revisits past generations of the "Pokémon" video game series to highlight some of its most memorable events.

The series will commence on Friday, Sept. 16, for a total of 18 episodes, and will finish on Dec. 23. It will be shown weekly on Pokemon's  YouTube channel  which will feature 5-minute episodes focusing on a different "Pokémon" game in past eras.

The "Pokemon Generations" trailer has revealed classic moments in the game, like the fight against Red Gyarados from "Pokémon Silver and Gold," and Pokémon Diamond/Pearl's confrontation with legendary titan Regigigas.

Fans say that "Pokemon Generations" is similar to "Pokémon Origins" which was an anime miniseries based on "Pokémon Red and Blue."
