'Star Trek: Discovery' Delays Launch To Ensure Quality; 'The Good Wife' Spin-Off To Replace Former Date

"Star Trek: Discovery" will take off in the small screen later than everyone expected. CBS recently announced that the release of the new Star Trek series is delayed to May 2017, citing that they don't want to compromise its quality. Instead, "The Good Wife" spin-off will be moved up to an earlier slate.

"Bringing Star Trek back to television carries a responsibility and mission: to connect fans and newcomers alike to the series that has fed our imaginations since childhood," executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Bryan Fuller said on a statement, cited Deadline.

"We aim to dream big and deliver, and that means making sure the demands of physical and post-production for a show that takes place entirely in space, and the need to meet an air date, don't result in compromised quality." they added.

The statement also explained that the "Star Trek: Discovery" production has already talked with CBS and came to an agreement that the series needs more time.

Scripts and plotlines are already done and the casting is also going according to schedule but the producers requested for the additional time for filming and post-production.

"Star Trek: Discover," which is supposed to debut in January, is a 13-episode series featuring events that happened 10 years before the original series. As earlier reported here on Itechpost, the plot will revolve around the characters who are considered the support of the ship and not its captain.

On the other hand CBS will air "The Good Wife" spinoff on February 2017 to fill "Star Trek: Discovery's" time slot.

Original "The Good Wife" creators Robert and Michelle King, will come back to produce the series, which up to now has no official title yet.

Some stars will also be coming back to reprise their roles on the upcoming series, including Christine Baranski who plays Diane Lockhart and Cush Jumbo who takes the role of Lucca Quinn. There will also be new characters whom will add excitement to the story.

"This line-up and release schedule will ensure we deliver the highest quality, premium series that are sure to appeal to both existing subscribers and new audiences alike, throughout the year," CBS President abd COO Marc DeBevoise, said  in a statement, Mashable cited.
