PlayStation 4 Pro And Xbox Scorpio Enter Favorable Environments As 4K Adaptation Rises Faster Than HD

The PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox Scorpio are promising fans a new age of gaming. With their vastly improved console hardware, the only device that can best reveal in complete detail the power of their graphic engines is the 4K television screens.

Tech and video game analysts doubt that there would be massive adaptation for the PlayStation Pro and the Xbox Scorpio given that the time gap between the releases of the recent iterations of the consoles is not even four years yet.

Most importantly many consumers do not have 4K television because these are expensive. However, recent reports say that this might be changing.

According to Venture Beat, Gary Shapiro, CEO of the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), said that more people are buying 4K screens today than ever, before implying the new generation of televisions are infiltrating households at a faster rate than its predecessor high-definition (HD) TVs.

With the rapid rise of 4K adaptation comes a favorable environment for the forthcoming powerful consoles.

"Some compare the shift to 4K to the shift to HD, but this transition is actually faster and more robust than the switch to HD," Shapiro said. "At year four of the transition to HD, we only sold 2.9 million units. But now, [with 4K], we're moving 15 million units. More than five times as many units. Our population did not grow that much in the last 15 or 20 years."

Retailers expect that sales of 4K Ultra HD televisions will double to 15 million units in the U.S. by the end of this year.

"Consumers are showing a strong preference for 4K. It's faster and more robust than HDTV," Shapiro added.

Reports say that the sudden rise of 4K television's popularity could probably be attributed to the lower price it carries today than in the past years. The Consumer Technology Association said that the average 4K TV was priced at $1,048 in 2014, compared to just $861 this year.

With games like Horizon: Zero Dawn taking full advantage of the PlayStation 4 Pro's 4K capabilities along with other forthcoming games, it would not be surprising to see the sales of the Pro and the Xbox Scorpio rising as well.
