Seven-Year-Old Syrian Girl Tweets From Aleppo, Pleads To Stop The Bombings

The internet has taken notice of a seven-year-old girl from Syria who tweets her experience in the war-torn country. Bana Alabed, who lives in Aleppo, goes by the Twitter handle @AlabedBana and reports the horrors of living in a city where airstrikes happen on a daily basis.

Bana created the Twitter account last Sept. 24 and has amassed over 18,000 followers. The account appeared on Twitter's Moments section, which gained even more attention from the international community.

Her bio reads: "Hi I'm Bana I'm 7 years old girl in Aleppo. I & my mom want to tell about the bombing here. Thank you."

Every night, she tweets about the bombings and the day after about the terrible aftermath. She has written about destroyed buildings and hospitals, friends lost and bombs falling from midnight to dawn.

Perhaps the most heart-wrenching tweets are when Bana and her family are not sure if they would live another minute.

Another tweet showed a photo of the previous night's bombing, wherein Bana's friend did not survive.

In another photo, she pleads Syrian president Bashar al-Assad and Russian president Vladimir Putin to stop the war so she can become a teacher.

Bana also tweeted that it's a miracle they have access to the internet, given their circumstances. She later added that her 3G connection may be slow, but it works.

Syria has seen four years of armed conflict, which started as a civil war and has now blown into battles between multiple warring parties. Over 4 million people has left the country since the war began and the UN estimates the death toll to be 250,000 in December 2015.
