Skyrim, Fallout PS4 Mods Okay – But Sony Has Conditions

Skyrim and Fallout PS4 mods are have been approved by Sony. However, the Japanese company has some conditions.

Bethesda & Sony on PS4 Mods for Skyrim and Fallout 4

A few weeks ago, Sony has turned down Bethesda's request to allow the use of mods in both Fallout 4 and Skyrim in PS4. Fortunately, Sony has backed down and is now allowing players to use mods.

Bethesda has already revealed on October 6 that the Skyrim Special Edition PS4 version will have mod support upon its release on October 28. Fallout 4 will also have mod support although the exact date has not been set.

Skyrim & Fallout 4 Mods Allowed But -

Sony has indeed allowed the use of Skyrim and Fallout 4 mods but there are some limits. Bethesda did qualify the mod support announcement. It seems Sony will only allow mods created by the game developer's Creation Kit. Mods created outside using "external assets" are prohibited. Skyrim and Fallout players will need a Bethesda account in order to gain access to the in-game mods.

Reactions from players of both games were mixed. Mods enthusiasts were understandably upset by Sony's limit over the use of outside mods, according to Kotaku. Other players however, are quite content playing the games even without the mods.

Use of Mods in Video Games Like Skyrim

Mods give players the ability to customize the characters and environment of the game. It's like creating a game within a game. For example, mod enthusiasts can create a Star Wars or Diablo themed environment in Skyrim or Fallout 4. A lot of players still remember the fan made mod of Macho Man Randy Savage Deathclaw beating his opponents in the Fallout game. Mods have been in use in Bethesda games for more than a decade now, according to The Verge.
