“Scream Queens” season 2 has been plagued by rumors of being cancelled because of low ratings. However, the airing of a two-hour Halloween special on Tuesday, Oct. 18, at 9 p.m., could be a hint of a season 3.

The second season of the comedy horror TV series ended on August with a cliffhanger. Kieran (Amadeus Serafini) was revealed as the Lakewood killer with Piper (Amelia Rose Blaire) as his accomplice. But the last moments of the finale, through a phone call, hinted that the real Brandon James could still be alive, according to IBT.

Fast Forward By 8 Months

The two-hour installment starts eight months after the arrest of Kieran. In spite of the time lapse, Emma (Willa Fitzgerald) continues to struggle with the events that happened while her friends have moved forward. The Lakewood Murders were the inspiration behind a best-selling graphic novel written by Noah (John Karna) and Stavo (Santiago Segura), while Audrey (Bex Taylor-Klaus) is in a new relationship.

With the approach of the first year anniversary of Piper’s killing spree, the gang goes to Shallow Grove Island -- a known haunted area – where a massacre happened. Left hanging at the end of the Halloween special is the question whether the bloody standoff that the Lakewood survivors experienced again is just an “old legend” or a familiar face from Lakewood haunting them.

Trailer Provides Answers To Questions About Season 2

According to Cartermatt, the trailer of the Halloween special would provide answers to many questions on the mind of the show’s fans that were left hanging in season 2, including a few things related to Brandon James.

The synopsis did not confirm if there would be a renewal for a “Scream Queens” season 3 which could pave the way for a new story that involves Emma, Audrey and other cast members. However, given the low ratings of season 2, the special could just tie-up loose ends of the season and end it with a bang rather than go for a full season 3 run.
