'Civilization 6' Rome Strategy Guide: How To Utilize Trajan, City's Unique Abilities To Win

Rome is known for its rich and rock solid history in Civilization 6. The past game introduced Julius Caesar and his leadership prowess. This time Trajan leads the ground towards Rome's greatest imperial expansion.

Trajan is known for his progressive social welfare policies and landmarks in Rome such as Trajan's Market and Trajan's Column. Here's a handy guide to help you lead Trajan's victory against your opponents.

Trajan's Column

Trajan's monument in Civilization 6 is vital should you want a +2 Culture point. The added culture point boosts your ability to learn the New Civics allowing an access over new wonders, policies and government types. Depending on what era you start in, you immediately get a free building in your city center.

Build More Trade Routes

In Civilization 6, traders are tasked to lay the groundwork for roads and highways in between cities. Trade routes including trading posts are primarily important. Such posts do not only add +1 gold, it also increases the amount of gold you earn from trade routes.

Place your traders in a location where they'll pass through as many cities of yours as possible on their way to trading destinations. The more cities with trading posts they pass through, the more money they will receive.

It's highly recommended to establish trade routes pointing to at least six and seven cities. For those who have seas and continents nearby, it is best to invest in sea trade routes.

Building Baths Adds Housing And Amenities Points

One of the major changes Civilization 6 gamers need to get accustomed to is the new concept of housing. Failure to supply enough housing will deteriorate your city's growth.

The Bath is a unique Roman building that replaces the bridge. It has to be built in between your city, lake, river or oasis. It gives +6 housing if your city wasn't previously adjacent to fresh water including +1 Amenities to keep your city productive. Building baths is one of the fastest ways to keep your empire population growing.

Transform Your Soldiers Into Legionnaires

The region has 40 Melee Strength that is five times stronger than the swordsman and two times than the warrior. This unit is crucial for acquiring serious military territorial games early in the game.

All you need to do is to use the coin you've been saving up from the trading posts to be able to upgrade your warriors to Legionnaires much faster. However, the maintenance cost increases as you upgrade your units, so be careful in upgrading your entire army in a onetime deal.

Trajan Victory Types

Trajan is a great leader to pick for beginners as he provides an easy time early game, giving the gamer much time to get used to the features and rules. The easiest victory for Trajan would be Culture and Scientific Victory Paths. The only Victory Type that might be harder to achieve for Trajan is Religious.

Rome's Wonders

The automatic freebie monument gives you a great head start as you begin the game. Focusing a bit on Civic-Tree wonders may give you an advantage over your opponents.

If you are aiming for Culture Victory, make sure to build the Colosseum Wonder which, offers +2 Culture and +3 Amenities. Building one city within six tiles north, east, south and west of the colosseum gives you a massive boost (+10 Culture per turn). The Bolshoi Theater gives out +2 Great Writer and Great Musician Points.

Should you opt for a Scientific Victory, building the Great Library is a must as it offers +2 Science and +1 Great Scientist points. One great addition to score the Science Victory is the addition of Oxford University. It will grant you two free technologies, +20 science in its home city, +3 Great Scientist points and +2 Great

Rome's Government

Building the Hanging Gardens increases the government's growth by 15 percent across your empire and adds +2 Great Person points for the Oracle.

Depending on the kind of government you pick, the number of slots you have for each policy will greatly vary. Monarchy has three Military slots, one Economic, and one Diplomatic while Theocracy has two military slots, two Economic, one Diplomatic and one Wildcard.
