Grand Theft Auto Irony: Rockstar Games Punishing Online Players For Being True To The Game

Grand Theft Auto players were caught unaware by the recent Rockstar campaign against cheaters. However, many of those affected openly complained about the crackdown.

Grand Theft Auto - Game Based On Illegal Activities

Grand Theft Auto is game series in which players do a lot of criminal activities that involves bank robbery, murder and other violent crimes. The game has been criticized for "corrupting the minds" of many young players.

GTA Online Imposes Crackdown Against Cheaters

GTA Online developer recently imposed a crackdown against cheaters in the game. The amount of in-game currencies taken from cheaters is estimated to have reached trillions of dollars. The affected players were naturally pissed. Many of them ranted at the GTA Online Forums.

GTA Online Cheaters Rationale of Crackdown

Cheating at GTA Online is nothing new. Three years ago, a GTA Online player complained about the sanction imposed against his account. He asked the developer's rationale in "punishing his illegal actions" in a game that lets players commit illegal acts even if it's only make-believe.

Rockstar Actions Against GTA Online Cheaters

In the recent crackdown, Rockstar prepared an official statement. The developers seized all the illegal in-game currency because they want to maintain a fair environment for all players. First offense would get the cheaters suspended from the game. In addition to the suspension, the cheater's character including current progress, items and property will be reset to Zero or confiscated .The second and final offense will result in the cheater's account removed from the online game.

The new GTA anti-cheaters policy is more stringent than the old three strike policy. Those who suddenly "received large sums of money" in their bank account but are innocent of wrong doing are exempted from punishment, according to developer's support page. However, the illegal currency will still be taken. Hopefully this will make GTA players obey the Rockstar Law.
