Ford Mustang GT4 Revealed: All New, Track-Ready Souped-Up Muscle Reaches Supercar Status

The American dream, the legendary muscle car, the Ford Mustang, is now ready to hit the tracks once again as the new Ford Mustang GT4 is introduced. The Ford Mustang has indeed come a long way in its muscle car lineup. From an original 2-seater concept in 1962, which was powered by a 1.5L V4 engine, to today's all-new Mustang GT4 that comes with a 5.2L V8 racing engine.

The new Mustang GT4 was unveiled at the SEMA show in Las Vegas and have been designed and engineered by Ford Performance and Multimatic Motorsports to compete in international races including the GT4 European Series. The Mustang GT4 specs have been configured to pass the GT4 series standards right off the bat.

A 5.2 liter V8, a lightweight compact six-speed Hollinger paddle shift transmission is equipped in the car. A ZF developed twin-plate racing clutch and flywheel also maximizes the performance. Multimatic added a set of dampers, lower rear control arms, and stabilizers, all tuned for the GT4 series. Forgeline fitted a lightweight 18x11 forged alloy wheels. The GT4 Mustang's stopping power comes from rotors and six calipers from Brembo.

In the interior, a full roll cage, race-ready engine control and an ABS controller can be found. A Motec dash logger logs your track records and data.

On the outside, massive rear wing, a front splitter, hood vents and a rear diffuser can be seen. The aero kit might be too flattering for the Mustang but are all functional and not wasted just for aesthetics. Overall, this muscle car is more than looks - it is, from the inside out, a beast.

Aside from the European GT4 Series, the 'Stang can also run race in the IMSA Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge and in the Pirelli World Challenge GTS Class. The Ford Mustang GT4 is still on display at SEMA.
