“The Walking Dead” Season 7 Update: 7 Most Violent And Gruesome Deaths In 7 Seasons Of The Series

"The Walking Dead" TV show is pretty famous for depicting gruesome deaths of its characters onscreen. And after seven seasons, there seems to be no end in sight with how far show runners will mangle and dismember our favorite characters. Especially if you take into account that heartbreaking and gut-wrenching season 7 premiere.

So to commemorate the show's seven-season run on television, here are seven of the most violent deaths in the show's history:

1. Amy (Season 1, Episode 4)

Amy is what you would call a pioneer in a way that she is the first main characters to get the "Walking Dead" treatment. Though she was not exactly what you would call a major character, Amy was part of the core group and introduced fans to the concept of the show's predilection towards killing off characters. The walker's attack on her was a gruesome surprise, but more importantly, her sister being forced to shoot Amy dead is one of the show's trademark emotional killing scenes that it will continue to use all the way to Season 7.

2. Sophia (Season 2, Episode 7)

Only naïve viewers of season 2 would really think that Sophia was still alive during the entire farmhouse arc. But it was nonetheless not easy when it was revealed that she has been in a barn full of walkers. A 12-year-old walker getting a mercy killing is definitely a tough one to swallow.

3. Shane (Season 2, Episode 12)

Sure, Shane started to get a bit annoying towards the end of season 2. But his death at the hands of his best friend was a little bit too early for my taste. Two best buds trying to kill each other just left a sour taste in viewer's mouths.

4. Lori (Season 3, Episode 4)

Okay, nobody really liked Lori and her death was not necessarily a bad thing for the plot. But it was nonetheless brutal that it just had to make the list. Her untimely c-section without any pain meds to save her baby may have taken her to the good graces of fans before she bowed out. Nonetheless, the entire scene was very hard to watch.

5. Hershel (Season 4, episode 8)

Hershel was the loveable patriarch that fans just adored. So his brutal end at the hands of the reviled Governor was one of the show's most memorable moments for fans. Most viewers hoped that a man with so much dignity would at least be given another exit. All hopes were dashed when his head came rolling off the Governor's sword.

6. Lizzie and Mika (Season 4, Episode 4)

Lizzie was a young girl with some serious mental problems. This led her to kill her sister Mika which was already gut-wrenching as it is. But in a world where survival is the number one priority, Carol killing Lizzie who was barely a teen really is as violent as it gets.

7. Glenn (Season 7, Episode 1)

Glenn is probably the number one fan favorite in the show not named Daryl. So it was really a pull out your heart moment when he was violently bludgeoned to death with a baseball bat. His final words to his wife will forever haunt viewers for a long time.
