Will Humans Become Extinct? Climate Change Causing Genetic Changes

Climate change is affecting the whole Earth in many ways. Already some of these changes can be felt as temperatures gradually rise. Even the environment itself is being affected. Will humans become extinct because of this? Climate change is said to be causing genetic changes to many here On Earth.

Much of the changes in the environment can be seen as the climate changes. Already much of marine and terrestrial life is being affected by it. For humans, that can be a big issue. That would mean a danger in famine as agriculture fails and fisheries reduce their yield.

Even a slight change in temperature can have dramatic effects, noted Dr. Brett Scheffers of the University of Florida. He said that a change of just one degree Celsius already has much effect on life. These effects could include changes in body size and more animal migration as species try to find a much more suitable place to thrive.

Dr. James Watson is the senior author of the study and is from the Wildlife Conservation Society and the University of Queensland. He assessed that climate change is no longer a concern for the future, but it is a concern that should be addressed now. He also noted that changes are already dramatic even with still a small amount of climate change, according to Science Daily.

The effects of climate change can be devastating as well. There could be more pests and diseases that could come out as a result of climate change, as News Wise reports. Dr. Watson said that governments and policy makers need to make more limits to emissions, or else face a crisis that man hasn't faced before.

The UN itself has already warned that climate change will affect as much as 122 million people, risking them to poverty  even further as farming and agriculture fail. All of these are dire for humanity, which leads some to ask: will humans become extinct? With climate change causing genetic changes, among other things, humanity might not be the same as we know it.
