Why Derek Shepherd’s Return In ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Is Not A Good Idea

Is there a course that teaches people to recover from a devastating death of their loved ones? Do we allow ourselves to be taught with certain guidelines and rules on the grieving process by an adviser that we barely know?

Denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance - a long journey indeed. These five stabbing steps are stylishly designed as an emotional machine that will take the involved characters in a roleplay. Flashbacks of happy and painful memories are inevitable. Then finally, everyone has to let go, to move on and live a life free from anxieties and agonies.

But why is it hard to accept Derek Shepherd’s downfall?

When Patrick Dempsey’s role as a surgeon was killed in ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” it felt like the world stopped to witness and empathize with Meredith’s sorrow. Yes, his exit is but tragic and unacceptable. As a report noted, Derek’s demise “was a cosmic violation of your soul“ that ripped off every hope and excitement left. He was taken away from his family on and off screens.

In what seems to be a lighter environment after almost 2 years of his passing, the medical drama took a leap of faith in bringing him back. His return in the famous series should have been thrilling (yes) but it was a bad idea after all. Shonda Rhimes, yours is a dramatic brilliance that keeps on breaking hearts.

Following the November 10 episode of the hit show, the strong followers took to their Twitter accounts to express their sentiments and pain. Check one of the many tweets below that serve as a vivid evidence of ineffective healing from the past.

Meredith’s Flashback Of McDreamy Is Terrifying

When the identity of the trauma patient that Dr. Grey and her medical team were operating on was disclosed, she couldn’t help but recall how frightful she felt when Derek died. She heard that the patient had a family in the waiting room. The patient’s wife and children requested details on his condition so that they are aware of what’s going on especially that his situation is critical.

The event brought back Meredith to the tragedy that Derek encountered. She remembered how she explained his death to their kids.

“I can’t fix him because no one can fix him because he’s dead,” Meredith said.

The Killer Narration That Broke Many Hearts

Alone in the operating room, a narration kicked in.

"We've all hit that point of exhaustion. The point where nothing makes sense anymore,” Meredith started.
The scene revealed a strong Meredith as she tries to compose herself to get away from breaking down in tears.

“Your body hurts, your brain becomes foggy, and you feel like you're trapped in a tunnel when all you want is your bed. So, how do you keep going? How do you not just sit down and give up? Sometimes, it's easy. Sometimes you play games in your head. You make up someone. Someone good. Whatever you need to keep you going," the narration continued.

Derek’s comeback is not a good concept. It’s either he reprise his role for good or remain in everyone’s memories.
