BorgWarner Launches New Electric Drive Module For Electric Cars

BorgWarner has just announced their very first Integrated Electric Drive Module for electric cars. The new module will be combined with their state of the art and already proven eGearDrive Transmission. The new product will be the first electric drive module that will be produced by BorgWarner. The product will be launched with two major Chinese automakers and are expecting production to start as early as summer of 2017.

Integrated Electric Drive Module

The new electric drive module will provide both the primary and secondary propulsion for the pure electric type or P4-type hybrid vehicles with a design that will enable savings for weight, cost, and space. The EDM will be combined with the eGearDrive transmission in only one housing, which would make installation easier. The output can also be based on the vehicle manufacturers desires propulsion characteristics and can be optimized for performance. Tweaking the various gear ratios to the specific needs of the car can advance the efficiency of the vehicle.

BorgWarner will feature their patented high voltage hairpin technology or HVH, and optional power electronics. The companies HVH 250 electric motor will deliver superior performance above the rest with an accuracy of over 95 percent. The eGearDrive will also contribute to extend the battery capacity and driving range.
