The OnePlus 3T Is A Worthy Purchase: Review, Price, Comparison

The OnePlus 3T has just recently been unveiled and it pretty much looks like the OnePlus 3. However, the 3T has been improved in many aspects. With that, it also carries a price higher than the OnePlus 3's. Nevertheless, the question right now is whether the $40/$80 price difference is worth it for people contemplating between the OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 3T. Basing on the 3T's specs, it actually looks like a worthy purchase. $80 actually is but a small price difference compared to the price difference between an iPhone and a OnePlus 3. Needless to say, OnePlus's pricing of the OnePlus 3T is still in line with the company's goal of being a "flagship killer".

OnePlus 3T Specs

As per a GSM Arena specs sheet, the OnePlus 3T is a 5.5 inch mobile phone with 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution. It runs Android Marshmallow from the box but it will also soon get its Nougat update. As for the phone's processor, it uses Snapdragon's fastest chip which is the Snapdragon 821. Take note that the OnePlus 3 uses a Snapdragon 820 processor. Nevertheless, the good thing about the OnePlus 3T is that it now has a bigger storage variant of $128 GB. There is still a 64 GB variant and it comes at a lower price ($40 price difference with OnePlus 3) but the 128 GB model seems like a better deal considering the phone's lack of a microSD slot. Since OnePlus always aims to offer a flagship phone for half the price, compromises have to be made and in the case of the OnePlus 3 and 3T, it's the microSD slot and display that has been sacrificed.

Needless to say, OnePlus did not compromise the cameras of the OnePlus 3T. From OnePlus 3's 16MP/8 MP camera combo, the OnePlus 3T is introduced with a 16MP/16 MP camera combo. This is a very welcome bonus considering that the 16MP/8MP camera of the OnePlus 3 is already a very good combination. Bumping up the front cam to 16 MP will definitely convince selfie-lovers to get the OnePlus 3T.

As expected, this new phone still carries a massive RAM size of 6 GB. Some fans might have wanted to see the OnePlus 3T get a boost in RAM but it looks like the company is saving that for next year's OnePlus 4. Besides, a 6 GB RAM is still a big thing this 2016. It's still bigger than the standard RAM size of this year's expensive phones which just usually runs through 4 GB.

It's also worth mentioning that the OnePlus 3T has a slightly bigger battery than the OnePlus 3. The OnePlus 3 already has a big 3000 mAh battery but the OnePlus 3T has a bigger 3400 mAh battery. It's also Dash Charge enabled. As per CNET, this boost in battery offers a couple of hours extra battery life compared to the OnePlus 3.

OnePlus 3T Conclusions

There's no doubt that OnePlus is giving you value for money with the OnePlus 3T. It's got a decent upgrade from the OnePlus 3 without having to increase the price big time. With a better front cam, a faster processor and a bigger battery, the OnePlus 3T is definitely worth every penny. Of course, OnePlus 3 owners need not upgrade as your phones are still relatively up-to-date and definitely a better deal than iPhones and Galaxies. However, for those looking for a new phone before the year ends, the OnePlus 3T should be at the top of your list.
