Heinz has recalled its very own gravy products days before the Thanksgiving. This is because the product might have a chemical that will risk allergy. According to reports, an approximate of 500 cases of the company’s HomeStyle Bistro Au Jus Gravy were mislabeled as Heinz Pork Gravy, meaning the product contains milk and soy but doesn’t list those ingredients on the container.

Heinz encouraged customers to return the products for an exchange or refund. “We deeply regret this situation and apologize to any consumers we have disappointed,” the company said.

Undeclaired Milk And Soy

As reported by NPR, the labeling mishap was for Heinz HomeStyle Bistro Au Jus Gravy. The jars in question were inadvertently labeled Heinz Pork Gravy and may contain milk and soy. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an alert via Twitter citing "undeclared milk and soy" in the HomeStyle. There are concerns that the gravy could be dangerous for people with certain food allergies.

According to U.S. FDA, milk and soy or soybeans are two among the many food major allergens. Along with these are eggs, fish (bass, flounder, cod), crustacean shellfish (crab, lobster, shrimp), tree nuts, peanuts (almonds, walnuts, pecans) and wheat. These foods account for 90 percent of food allergic reactions, and are the food sources from which many other ingredients are derived.
