Metroid NES Classic Edition Game Mystery: Why They Turn Samus Aran Into A Woman

Metroid, the original version was first release in the first NES generation console. Metroid fans will now get to know why the developers turn Samus Aran as a female instead.

Metroid Players Shocked by Revelation

Players of the original Metroid game were shocked to discover that the muscle bound Samus Aran is actually a female. The character initially appear as a muscle bound and heavily armored looking dude. None of the players who started the Metroid game knew that she was actually a female since she is also wearing a helmet.

 Developers Want to Reward Early Metroid Finishers

The ones responsible for turning Samus Aran as a woman are Metroid game director, Yoshio Sakamoto and his partner in crime character designer Hiroji Kiyotake, according to Nintendo. Initially, the character was supposed to be a male one.

Sakamoto said that during the final development phase of the Metroid project, an idea came to them. They wanted to present a special reward for players who managed to finish the game early. The two will surprise the early players by revealing that Samus Aran is a female once she removes her helmet.

 They were right, players were surprised by such revelation that many could not believe it and has been the topic of discussion for a long time. That Metroid ending has made it kind of legendary among the game's fans.

Metroid Comes Back

Interest in the classic Metroid game is coming back as its one of the titles included in the release of the NES Classic mini version console. Kiyotake mentioned that he and Sakamoto took almost a year to develop the Metroid game. It was only after that they have developed the basic codes for the game when the rest of their development team mates joined in. They mentioned the difficulty of developing such game since their only background at that time was developing Game & Watch titles.
