MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries has finally been confirmed during the Mech_Con 2106 conference held in Vancouver, Canada recently. The developer presented some of its early work to the series fans.
What to Expect from MechWarrior 5
The upcoming MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is currently being developed by Piranha Games. They are the same guys that launch the MechWarrior Online game which is free to play. The developers also presented a video clip of the MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries. The presentation was seven minutes long and fans could view it here. Piranha Game is also using Unreal game Engine in developing the latest title in BattleTech series.
MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries a Standalone Game
Piranha Games CEO Russ Bullock said that his company intends to provide BattleTech fans a standalone game featuring single player story line and missions. He also assured MechWarrior Online players will still continue to receive technical support and additional contents. To the uninitiated, MWO is already in its fifth year.
The History of BattleTech
The BattleTech Universe was first conceived on 1984 by the FASA Corporation. Microsoft launched the fourth installment entitled MechWarrior 4: Vengeance on late 2000. It was followed by a standalone expansion game, MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries. The MechWarrior Online game was only release on 2013.
MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries Storyline
The upcoming BattleTech game will let players assume the part of MechWarrior pilot taking part in the Third Succession War, according to Kotaku. Players can choose various jobs from the warring groups in the Inner Sphere. The gameplay is Mech tactical combat and first person shooter similar to Titanfall 2. The game's plot will be determined by the choice the players make in choosing sides and their piloting skills. Winning battles and acquiring wealth will require the strategic use and maintenance of the BattleMechs. MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries will not be due for release until sometime on 2018.
