AMD Radeon Latest News & Update: AMD’s Radeon Software Crimson ReLive Edition Launches With Amazing Features

Graphics chip manufacturer AMD unveiled the Crimson ReLive Edition, its latest driver suite reboot, on Thursday, Dec. 8.

The Radeon Software Crimson ReLive Edition is a refresh of the Crimson Edition that was released in 2015. Like the Crimson Edition and 2014's Catalyst Omega, the latest driver suite has some exciting new features.

AMD's Crimson ReLive Edition works with both Radeon and Radeon Pro brands, and offers both new and improved features such as Radeon Loom, the Radeon WattMan overclocking tool, TressFX 4.0, support for the open source benchmarking tool OCAT, and many more.

AMD says that its Radeon Software Crimson ReLive Edition performs better than the Crimson 16.6.2 driver suite and that it generates a seven percent increase in performance in "Batman: Arkham Knight," eight percent in "Ashes of the Singularity," 7 percent in "Shadow of Mordor," 4 percent in "Deus Ex: Mankind Divided," and 6 percent in "Overwatch."

Digital Trends notes that the Crimson ReLive Edition works with the Kabini APU and newer AMD graphics chips based on the company's Graphics Core Next architecture. The new software seems to be targeted at AMD's fourth-generation Polaris and newer architecture. The outlet suggests that the company is gearing up to announce the Radeon RX 490 and the Radeon RX Pro 490 cards sometime soon, possibly even this month.

Along with the launch of the Crimson ReLive Edition, AMD introduced its Radeon Chill, a power-saving feature that controls frame rates dynamically according to in-game movement. When Radeon Chill is turned on, the graphics card is said to consume as much as 31 percent less power and will be up to 13 percent cooler (in Celsius). AMD released a list of games that support Radeon Chill. These include "World of Warcraft," "The Witcher 3," "Tomb Raider 2013," "Dark Souls III," "Fallout 4," "Counter-Strike," "Team Fortress 2," "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim," and "Warframe."

PC World notes that AMD is rolling out game support for the Radeon Chill based on a whitelisting method but hopes that it will soon move to a blacklisting method. The AMD Radeon Software Crimson ReLive Edition is now available for Radeon and Radeon Pro cards.
