Final Fantasy XV Guide To Umbra, Points Of No Return

There's much to learn about Final Fantasy XV, a titular game developed by Square Enix. It's not the kind of title that you'll be able to master in one single sitting. It requires time and a good amount of effort. One of the features that confuses players the most is the so-called points of no return. So, let's talk about it and unearth what these are all about. And of course, we'll tackle the importance of Umbra and how it's actually related to your gameplay experience.

What And Where Are The Points Of Return Located?

One of the best things about the title is how it efficiently introduces the concept of open-world designs. And take note: these are created in a way that they consistently adapt the kind of plot you'll expect from a typical Final Fantasy installment. At some point in the game, you'll be warned about not being able to return to your previous location (hence the name).

It should be noted that this can happen as early as Final Fantasy XV Chapters 3 and 4. The good thing, though, is that these scenes (they're story-based) are not that long. They usually last an hour, more or less. Once done, you should be able to return to the open-world setting -- either on where you're situated or to a new location.

Introduction To Chapter 8, The Real Point Of No Return

The exact point of no return (as in literally) is when you reach Chapter 8's end. After it, you'll be sailing into a brand new continent. And from there, you'll be up against a semi-open chapter, which is then followed by a series of events. All of these, though, will lead you straight to the game's end. If you want to experience the title's story step-by-step (which we highly recommend), it's best to complete everything you're facing prior to the aforesaid chapter.

If, in any case, you want to go back to the open-world in Final Fantasy XV, there's a surefire way to do it. Fortunately, the studio has created a pretty nice trick. And yes, this will be discussed in the following paragraphs. So, take your notes and jot them down.

The Importance Of Umbra

As mentioned, the developers have created an escape path that will lead you back to the open-world. This is by way of using Umbra. During Chapter 9, you'll face a mysterious Gentiana in a hotel located in Altissa's Leville Hotel. Don't worry, though, as it's a chapter that you'll surely experience (so don't worry about missing it). Here, you'll fully understand the concept of Umbra.

In the earlier part of the Final Fantasy XV story, you'll be able to acquire a dog -- this is actually Umbra. However, its powers can only be utilized once Gentiania unlocks it. Hence you need to go through the aforementioned process. In a sense, Umbra will let you have the option to go back to the open-world of Lucis. This is also the same whenever you want to go through various quests. The key here is to head straight to the lodgings and call Umbra every time you want to go back.

It's worth noting that you don't necessarily have to pay for the lodgings. Let alone the bank EXPs. The trick is to simply talk to the man at the front desk. Or, if you want to, talk to any other NPCs, as long as they make you rest.
