Steam Awards Finalists Announced; List Includes Civ VI, Skyrim, GTA V, And More

After the nomination period last November for the Steam Awards 2016, Steam is finally done with the tabulation and revealed the final nominees. Over 15 million nominations have been made, but the Steam Selection Committee has spoken, and only a few were chosen. Starting December 22, the community can visit every day to cast their vote in one of the categories.

Steam Awards Categories

There was a total of 12 categories where people can cast out their votes. Four of categories were made by the Selection Committee, which is composed of the entire community who participated in the voting event. These are "The Boom Boom Award," "The Love/Hate Relationship Award," "The Sit Back and Relax Award," and "The Better With Friends Award."

The nomination for the Steam Awards had no restriction and any games available on steam could be nominated. This is evident in The "Test of Time" Award which is to be given to a game that never gets old and is still as good today as the day your first played it. This year's Steam Awards categories are quite funny and hilarious as it doesn't have titles like "Best Game Of the Year" or "Best Developer Of The Year." Instead, they have The "Villain Most In Need Of A Hug" Award and The "Whoooaaaaaaa, dude!" Award.

Popular Games Are On The List

Many popular games were included in the list of nominees like Borderlands, Far Cry, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Also included are Age of Empires II which just released a new DLC, and both Sid Meier's Civilization V and VI. The GTA V is also present and was being nominated in two different categories.

Voting will be available in one category every day starting December 22 to December 30. The entire thing will occur simultaneously with the Steam Winter Sale and games being nominated are more likely to offer a large discount as part of the promotion. Winners will be announced on December 31 before the year ends.
