Fans and enthusiasts of the Chevrolet Corvette have long been waiting for an update in the engine bay. It appears that their wish may finally be granted. The next generation of Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is set to receive a new engine in the form of an LT5.

The LT5 Engine

As reported, the LT4 and LT5 engines have been patented by General Motors since April of 2013. Up until present however, the Chevrolet Camaro and Corvette have only been equipped with the LT4. Due to this, many have wondered when the LT5 will be placed in the engine bay of either model. Reports state that the LT5 engine will be the new powertrain of the next generation of Corvette.

The New Corvette

In a report from Digital Trends, it was mentioned that the 2018 Chevrolet Corvette will be equipped with a 6.2-liter V8 engine with an LT5 codename. Compared to the other engines, the LT5 engine has a low-end grunt and better experience in terms its rev range. Accordingly, the new engine will take the new Corvette beyond its limitations. This means that the new generation of Corvette may be able to hold its own against a Ferrari or even a Lamborghini as reported.

When Will It Be Introduced

Reports state that the next generation Corvette will arrive in 2018. Accordingly, this is also the time when the LT5 engine will make its appearance. Most of the details of the new engine at this point are still being kept under wraps but the fact remains that there is a lot for fans and enthusiasts have a lot to look forward to in the next generation of Corvette.

Since the arrival of the next Corvette is not until 2018, fans and enthusiasts at this point will simply have to wait and see how the LT5 will perform in the next generation of the generation of Corvette. In any case, the months will go by fast and the new Corvette will reach the market before the consumers know it.
