Nintedo's Survival Relies On 'NES Classic' Success, But Why?

Just minutes after its official release, Nintendo's NES Classic Edition was quickly sold out, leaving the general public with options of either waiting or buying overpriced units over eBay. Because of its unlikely success, Nintendo has since promised to restock the same units before the holidays hit.

With all that being the case, there is also the Nintendo Switch - Nintendo's future flagship console - which is also due for release in March 2017.

About the NES Classic Edition

The main attraction of the NES Classic is that it gives this nostalgic feeling of wanting to play the games that have been the staple of every gamer that was old enough to experience the classics. While being notably stellar on its own, the NES Classic rests mainly on the claim that it supplies a very pressing demand.

It provides some of the best retro games that anyone who were able to play these said games way back would be hooked yet again, including the newer generations who are also interested in knowing what gaming was like back in the 80's.

The Nintendo Switch

On the other end, there's the Nintendo Switch, which is slated for release in March of this year. Unlike the NES, the upcoming console represents the future of the company and gaming in general. While proving the main capability of the console, the Switch's teaser trailer has still left a lot of head-scratchers and questions to be answered.

The difference of the Switch

The Nintendo Switch announcement stated that the console will be a versatile device. It can be docked in and played on a television set, but can also be docked out and carried around for portable gaming. Even then, only one console can be connected to another in order to play within a group. But for friends that do not have their own Nintendo Switch unit, it can also be shared among a number of players as well.

The contrasts are undeniable, but so are their appeals. Some analysts believe that the NES Classic Edition is the perfect 'commercial' to the Nintendo Switch. But the truth is, Nintendo also intends that the public would get excited over its systems yet again.

Impact of the NES Classic

It will take some time for the strategy to be proven right or wrong. Reports have already noted that everything is all in favor for Nintendo at this point. Lighting fast and almost out of nowhere, the Japanese-based gaming company has supplied one of the hottest items for the recently-concluded holiday. But as we all have known by now, the shortages of the NES Classic Edition has been a cause of concern.

How the Classic will impact the Switch

Fans of the company had to consider some drastic measures in order to get their hands on the company's nostalgic console, and because a restock of the NES Classic has already been promised, its own hands might be tied as of the moment. However, there is some glimmer of hope that the Nintendo Switch will come in amounts that are acceptable and will not leave a majority of the public with empty hands like the NES Classic.

Overall, the NES Classic has been a huge success, and would likely impact the success of the upcoming Switch once it will be released.
