Sprint Galaxy Epic 4G Touch Gets Galaxy S2 Android Jelly Bean 4.1 Update

Updates are finally being rolled out to the U.S. versions of the Samsung Galaxy S2 smartphones on the Sprint network. This makes the Sprint Epic 4G Touch the first variant of the Galaxy S2 to receive the Android Jelly Bean 4.1 update within the fifty states.

The initial Galaxy S2 Android Jelly Bean update was rolled out to North American residents in Canada and is now available for U.S. Galaxy S2 users on the Sprint Network. It's expected that Galaxy S2 owners on Sprint's subsidiary pre-paid carrier, Boost Mobile will most likely receive the update as well since Sprint and Boost Mobile are on the same network.

Sprint announced Tuesday that the software updates would start rolling out beginning Thursday and Galaxy S2 users will go from Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 to Android Jelly Bean 4.1. Sprint said it will take time for all the updates to reach all users and it plans on rolling them out in phases. Specifics weren't given as to what exactly the new update includes, but new features that come with Jelly Bean are Google Now, an improved Browser and a Calendar. Jelly Bean is said to have a smoother UI and offers additional multitasking, such as the split screen where you can watch a video and surf the internet at the same time.

Galaxy S2 users who wish to upgrade to Android Jelly Bean 4.1 may use Samsung Kies to install the update from their PC. Other carriers including AT&T, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular and Verizon with Galaxy S2 variants should receive software updates within the coming weeks.
