Nintendo Switch Games: Super Mario Odyssey Hands-On Confirmed For E3 2017

Super Mario Odyssey has been announced to be part of Nintendo Switch's 2017 lineup, but it is not coming until the holidays. For those wanting to try it, however, Nintendo of America's President Reggie Fils-Aime has confirmed that it will be playable on E3 this June.

Fans Can Try Out Super Mario Odyssey In E3

Nintendo considered letting fans play Super Mario Odyssey during the recent Switch event in New York on Friday but decided against it in the end. Apparently, the Japanese gaming company has decided to hold off a hands-on demo until E3, Fils-Aime told IGN.

"The only decision that was made from an E3 consideration standpoint was 'do we show Super Mario Odyssey from a hands-on perspective today versus E3?' And we're going to show it at E3," he said. "But at least from a Nintendo perspective, there's no other consideration that is driven by E3."

This also confirms Nintendo's attendance on the said event, which kicks off June 13 and lasts until June 15. There is no telling yet what else the company could show off during E3 given that they decided to lay low last year. Nevertheless, fans hope that there will be more Nintendo stuff at this year's expo.

What Is Super Mario Odyssey About?

As noted in the Nintendo Switch event on Jan. 12, Super Mario Odyssey is the first title to feature Mario venturing outside his own world. There are some real-life places mixed into the classic 3D world including an in-game recreation of New York City named New Donk City.

Per the usual Super Mario game, the world is separated into "levels." The Nintendo Switch version is an open-world game with open-ended levels like that of Super Mario 64. Aside from entirely new places, the newest addition to the franchise is the Italian plumber's Crazy Cap that seems to have gained sentience.

As of now, there are not enough details about the much-awaited game. But more official announcements are expected as holiday 2017 draws closer. Meanwhile, Nintendo Switch is releasing on March 3 with a $299 price tag.
