Samsung Makes Galaxy Mega 6.3 And Galaxy Mega 5.8 Phablets Official

Samsung has officially taken the wraps off its rumored Galaxy Mega smartphones. The electronics giant made it official today by announcing the Galaxy Mega 6.3 and the Galaxy Mega 5.8. Samsung describes the phablets as combining the portability of a smartphone with the power, multitasking capabilities and the screen real estate of a tablet. The Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 and 5.3 are two very big phablets.

The Galaxy Mega series has been rumored for weeks now, and just a few days ago we told you about the Galaxy Mega 6.3 and the Galaxy Mega 5.8. At the time both devices were expected to be announced sometime in May, but it seems Samsung couldn't wait until May and decided to drop the news on the tech world Thursday. So it's time to look at the official specs of the Galaxy Mega series:

The Galaxy Mega 6.3, as its name implies, features a 6.3-inch PLS HD display, Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, 1.7GHz dual-core processor, 8GB or 16GB of internal memory, 1.5GB of RAM, 8-megapixel rear camera, 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera, 4G LTE radio available on one model, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0 H/S, GPS+GLONASS, NFC, 67.6 x 88 x 8.0 mm dimensions , 199g, microSD slot with support for up to 64GB cards, and a Li-ion 3,200 mAh battery.

The Galaxy Mega 5.8 features a 5.8-inch Qhd 960 X 540 TFT display,  Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, 1.4GHz dual-core processor, 8GB of internal memory, 1.5GB of RAM, 8-megapixel rear camera, 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0 H/S, GPS+GLONASS, 162.6 x 82.4 x 9.0 mm dimensions, 182g, microSD slot with support for up to 64GB cards, and a Li-ion 2,600 mAh battery.

Don't expect to receive the Galaxy Note's S Pen; Samsung is not including that feature for the Mega series, most likely to keep costs down. That shouldn't discourage you, because Samsung has added many features found on its upcoming Samsung Galaxy S4 to make up for leaving out the S Pen.The Galaxy Mega 6.3 and 5.8 will ship in Europe and Russia in May.
