Update On Prevention Study Sheds Light For HIV Patients, New Research Claims

Ever since the discovery and emergence of HIV, it is just but undeniable to say that mankind has indeed come a long way in combating the deadly disease. Certain innovations have already been created with hopes of preventing the said disease. Last year, a large number of researchers have noted that four important clinical studies have been started. Experts say that each of these trials promise to inform and add knowledge in terms of HIV prevention research, which may allegedly result in new tools that can be deployed around the world to help eradicate further transmission of HIV infection.

Hope For HIV Patients

It was found that ViiV Healthcare has been working on a long-acting injectable formulation of the antiretroviral cabotegravir, which has been noted to have recently entered a large phase III study in the United States, Latin America and Africa particularly applied in men who have sex with men and trans women. According to reports revealed by National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, if the injectable cabotegravir is found to be effective for HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis, commonly called as PrEP, researchers believe that this treatment may be easier for some people to adhere to as compared with daily oral Truvada, the only licensed PrEP regimen up to date.

Update On Prevention Study

As per Aids.gov, NIH has also been testing a number of prevention options that address the unique needs of women, such as a drug-infused vaginal ring. Although further research has already suggested that the use of these products may be much more effective when regularly used, it was found that the ring has reportedly lessened the risk of HIV infection by a modest 27 percent in a large clinical trial reported before 2016 has ended. Ultimately, researchers have highly emphasized that they are continuously striving to gain critical insights that can inform HIV prevention and vaccine science.
