Aston Martin Rapide S At Nürburgring: A True Hydrogen Race Car? (Price And Specs Inside)

The Aston Martin Rapide S will participate in this year's 24 Hours of Nürburgring event. It won't be just any Aston Martin Rapide S, however: the carmaker has announced that it will run a prototype Rapide S at the race that will feature similar specs, but is powered by an experimental, twin-turbocharged 6-liter engine that runs both on gasoline, as well as hydrogen.

Being a four-door V-12 sedan, the Aston Martin Rapide S is already a unique addition to the 24 Hours of Nürburgring event. The standard-edition boasts some impressive specs: 550 horsepower and has a base price tag of $202,945. It's unknown how many horses that the hybrid version will run at Nürburgring can produce, but Aston Martin spokesperson Matt Clarke told the LA Times that the hybrid Rapide S will at least be in the ballpark of 550 horsepower.

As far as the Nürburgring Aston Martin Rapide S price tag — it's unclear whether or not the company even intends to mass-produce the vehicle, so it's pretty much priceless at the moment. If we had to guess, though, chances are pretty good that you'll be able to buy a hydrogen-powered Aston Martin Rapide S at your local dealership sometime in the not-too-distant future.

"We think this technology has some great potential," Clarke told the LA Times. "If people don't start to do this sort of thing, the debate will never happen."

In the meantime, you'll need to check out the 24 Hours of Nürburgring race to see the hybrid in action.  And here's a basic breakdown of the standard-edition Aston Martin Rapide S specs sheet:
